Switchel

Switchel is a refreshing and electrolyte packed beverage that predates refrigeration. Also called Haymaker's Punch, Swizzy, or Ginger Water it was an important hydrator for fieldworkers.


2 Tbs unfiltered apple cider vinegar

3 Tbs raw honey or molasses (or a combination of both, which I prefer)

2 inch piece of ginger root peeled and finely minced

4 cups water

1/2 of a fresh lime juiced and zested

1 chile de arbol, deseeded


In a mason jar combine ingredients, cover, and shake to mix up, refrigerate overnight. Serve switchel in the Swizzy Buck recipe.
